Born on 12 August 1955, in the village of Dereneu, Călăraşi district, in a family of primary school teachers.
Graduate of the “Serghei Lazo” Polytechnic Institute in Chişinău, School of Mechanics (1978). First publication – 1974 (“Scânteia leninistă”). Made his literary debut in the “Nistru” magazine, 1977, issue 4.
• Member of the Writers’ Union since 1988.
• Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Human Sciences (Chişinău, 2000)
• Corresponding Member of the Kiev International Academy (2000)
• Member in the Editing Board of the following publications: Natura (magazine; available since 2000), Viaţa Basarabiei (magazine, new series, available since 2002), Magazin bibliologic (magazine, available since 2003) and Calendarul naţional (available since 2003).
